Japan Airlines (JAL) had to add an extra flight because a group of sumo wrestlers was too heavy for the originally scheduled flights. These sumo wrestlers, who were heading to a sports festival on Amami Island,
weighed around 256 pounds (120 kilograms) each. JAL had planned for two groups of wrestlers
to fly separately from Tokyo and Osaka. However, because of their weight, the airline was concerned that the planes they initially booked wouldn’t have enough fuel to carry them, and the airport on Amami Island was too small for big planes. So,
14 passengers had to switch to the new flight, and some of them had to fly from Osaka to Tokyo first to make it work.
