The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced that it has removed SpiceJet from its enhanced surveillance program. This move comes after the airline faced multiple challenges. In July 2022, the DGCA had asked SpiceJet to reduce its flight operations by 50% for eight weeks due to safety incidents. The airline was then placed under enhanced surveillance, which was lifted on October 30 of the same year.

Subsequently, SpiceJet faced financial difficulties, and

the DGCA placed the low-cost carrier under enhanced surveillance again in July 2023. The regulator conducted 51 spot checks at 11 locations on SpiceJet’s Boeing 737 and Bombardier DHC Q-400 aircraft to address concerns about maintenance following incidents during the previous year’s monsoon

season. During this recent surveillance, the DGCA made 95 observations, mostly routine in nature, which the airline addressed in compliance with DGCA guidelines.

As a result of SpiceJet’s actions and compliance, it has been removed from the enhanced surveillance program. The enhanced surveillance involved increased night monitoring

and spot checks to ensure safety and maintenance standards were met.
