Great news for Bihar’s economically weaker farmers! State cooperative banks are gearing up to provide interest-free, short-term agricultural loans to farmers holding Kisaan Credit Cards (KCC). The initiative aims to support farmers in covering post-harvest expenses and meeting financial requirements for agricultural and allied activities.

The Bihar government is actively working towards the welfare of stakeholders in the cooperative sector, particularly farmers. Deepak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Bihar Cooperative Department, highlighted the state’s commitment to offering interest-free loans. This effort is a significant step in aiding farmers associated with KCC.

To enhance the capabilities of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), the government has planned to transform them into Common Service Centers (CSCs). These CSCs will offer 300 common services in rural areas, strengthening the overall agricultural infrastructure.

Initiatives are already underway to develop 1,000 PACS into common service centers. This was disclosed by the Additional Chief Secretary during an event commemorating the 70th All India Cooperative Week 2023. Bihar Cooperative Department Minister Surendra Yadav emphasized the government’s multifaceted support for cooperative societies and farmers.

Yadav assured that additional incentives for farmers are on the horizon. Recognising the pivotal role played by small and marginal farmers in the state’s development, he highlighted the profitability and successful implementation of cooperative schemes by cooperative banks.
